Solicitor Advocate (Higher Rights Civil)

Durand is a Solicitor with Higher Rights of Audience (Civil) and was until recently a partner at a London firm where he was in charge of the Immigration Department. Prior to this Durand worked as an in-house advocate for various firms and regularly represented people in their immigration hearings at the First-tier and Upper Tribunals. Durand therefore has a very broad experience and is able to advise clients regarding all possible stages of the immigration process.

Durand’s highly specialised immigration practice also touches on family, international tax, private client, international sanction and extradition issues. Durand is a meticulous and careful lawyer and has been described and often deals with complex cases.

Prior to becoming a solicitor Durand was called to the Bar of England and Wales, passed many specialist exams in Immigration law and obtained an MA in International Human Rights Law. Durand has also passed exams in the Japanese language which he speaks and reads at an advanced level and is a member of British Japanese Lawyers Association.

As well as regularly being instructed as a solicitor advocate, Durand has also been instructed by other firms as a professional witness in disputed nationality and stateless cases and gave evidence in the reported Country Guidance case of ST (Ethnic Eritrean – nationality – return) Ethiopia CG [2011] UKUT 00252(IAC). Durand’s work in this specialist area was also acknowledged in the legal academic book Nationality and Statelessness in the International Law of Refugee Status, 2016 by Eric Fripp.
